WOYWW, Artistic freedom

Good morning dear bloggers!

How are you today?? We have a rather dismo morning - doesn't make you feel very happy but I guess this is the time of the year when all our spirits are a bit down - you go to work in the dark, come back in the dark Huh! Not much fun at all....
But not to worry there is Queen Julia with  WOYWW every week to cheer us up...
Now to start with a bit of chat I would like to tell you how I have finally came to the level of so called "Artistic freedom".....let me explain....A few years ago when I started making cards stamping and embossing and stuff like that was the scariest thing you could imagine ....I used to use mostly digi stamps and cards would be made by layering different designer papers, matting, attaching embelishments.....then I finally mastered stamping and embossing.....so then digi stamps were gone out of my life, I started a mad hunt for proper stamps and then it was suddenly almost shameful to use digi stamps or just layer designer paper.....I started making my own backgrounds and thanks to WOYWW I have mastered stamping and embossing and all the other tricks of the trade (well sort of...)....Suddenly this year when making all those Christmas cards I have reached the so called "artistic freedom" level when I don't think of using any craft material shamful or not appropriate - I actually use stickers and toppers on some of my cards....I dare to use horrible scraps to make a card, anything I feel looks good I use ...I feel so free now...and I think my cards this year are the best I have ever made....
Here are some of the examples.....
Stickers......does that look bad??? ....I think they make the card nice...

....how about a vintage Christmas card downloaded from the internet......I must admit the background was selfmade - stamps and gesso.....

Oh and here is the real "artistic freedom"......card made from scraps and washi tape....

So ladies and gentlemen have you reached the level of "artistic freedom".....tell me....
Ok enough philosophy.....my desk is here too......
I tidyed up as you can see....it might not be tidy to some of you but for me it is a great improvement as I actually  can see my desk now......

Right side.....

and left side - a bit more messy.....but it is what I call kaotic order....

If you are not snorring away by now I wish you a lovely day and a good snoop around the desks of the world....
Lots of hugs to everyone...
Cardarian

P.S.: I often wonder that it is about 8 o'clock in the morning in England and there is about 80 bloggers already linked up....does that mean most of you post on Tuesday....it is still WOYWWednesday isn't it????

  1. I think people do get up so early to link up! No desk from me this week, I'm getting things sorted for a crafty weekend away! I'm going to meet my fellow Design Team from Crafty Boots. And after meeting you all it just makes me even more excited to go cos I reckon they'll be as lovely and as fab as you all were! Take care Zo xx

Aren!t I lucky that I don't usually have 2 x 8 o'clocks in a day! I will be back later for a second look at your post as their are so many lovely things to see. I please myself what I use in art ... 7. Happy WOYWW. I struggle to get into the Top 50 most weeks and I am up early because of my pain. I was up at 3 am today, but didn't even think of turning the computer on! 'Artistic Freedom' - yes, I have reached that magic level. I use digistamps, downloads, stamps, make my own backgrounds, designer papers, stickers .... Anything goes in my craft room! Ali x #71

  9. Here's to artistic freedom and to no arty snobbery. If you enjoy it, use it. And given what you're busy creating, it definitely works for you!

    Happy WOYWW,

  11. Beautiful cards - and your desk is just right! Not too messy, not too tidy!
I think most crafters hate wasting things and would do the same as you - using whatever bits and bobs they have.

Oh, and as Anne says, I'm in a high slot this week as I'm finishing work at nearly midnight at the moment, and need some time to wind down before I can get to sleep. I had the post written because I knew I wouldn't have time in the morning before work - and no point waiting til midnight Wednesday!), so when I spotted that Julia had posted 180, I though I might as well join in!

  15. Ho Dolores
Here's to artistic freedom, It's not what you use, it's HOW you use your stash that the important thing. who cares as long as you make great cards like that. I especially like the one with the reindeer.
As for your comment on the time of posting. I write my post on tuesday evening as I leave for work early on wednesday. I usually post in the middle of the night when my dog wakes me up for a comfort break!
    have a good week

  16. I think a lot of us schedule a post Dolores and then if we get up in the night (for one of those little walks women of a certain age have to make) we check in and post our link.
Love your cards and sadly I have not reached that artistic freedom yet, but it is certainly waiting around the corner. Good luck to you.
Hugs, Neet15 xx (who is playing catch up after internet connection went on a silly yesterday)

  17. great looking cards and desk this week. I think the artistic license/freedom is definitely invigorating and I love it! My daughter hangs with an artistic crowd and when one of them turns up their nose at my choices in materials and styles she tells them that I don't like to be bored by convention. Too true. I am an artist not an artiste! You know an artist makes beautiful art and an artiste sits around trying to convince folks that his crap is art! Just my humble opinion. I think you are a true artist! Have a great week and thanks for sharing. Vickie #62

  18. I schedule the post for 130am so that the US gals get a look in, but that changes soon, now we are in winter!! I think when we met I told you that I've watched your style evolve sice we met on WOYWW, and I really admire where you are now. Artistic freedom is a great way to describe it..as long as you re happy with it, what matters what you use...personally, I love what you do. and your desk...it's like my desk, so I love that too!!

  19. I think your cards made using your own artistic freedom look wonderful. After all - somebody has to come up with original crafty ideas in the first place! x Jo

  21. There is no judgment in WOYWW, right? However your artistic muse strikes you, however clean or messy you like it, it's all good!

I'm still hopping along this week (I'll miss next week prepping for our Thanksgiving,) so have a great two weeks ahead! Be well! Darnell #41

  22. Hullo there Delores, ah yes time zones are very confusing you are now eleven hours behind us.. so your 8am is our 7pm, same day - how is that?? totally confusing! so we are 11am here when you just start after midnight of Wednesday from Tuesday..
Re the philosophy.. totally agree with it all!! freedom to use whatever found it with the craft group I used to go to they looked down their nose if you used some things and I know I used to also!! love your cards! :D
Thanks so much for popping over and thanks for sharing ~ happy WOYWW! Shaz in Oz. x #10
